Social media and minors: the Constitutional Council strikes down the law
A few weeks ago I published a post about this law, wondering how to verify users' age without exposing everyone's data. On August 14th, the Constitutional Council struck down the law banning social media for under-15s. Not because it opposed protecting children, it actually acknowledged that the goal was entirely legitimate. But because the ban was deemed disproportionate and the law provided no clear privacy guarantees for the age verification system. That's exactly the question I was asking. The government has requested a new text that will this time need to include a clear legal framework for data protection. The topic isn't buried, it's just starting over on better foundations. Protecting minors online, that's fine! But how do we do it without creating new risks for everyone?
